Unlike other chief ministers Trilochan Bhatta from Far Western Province started his political journey from India where he worked to make his living. Having joined All India Nepali Unity Society, an India based chapter of Rastriya Janamorcha Nepal, in 1990, he later took membership of then CPN Maoist. He became Doti district secretary of the party after returning Nepal in 2006 and continued the Maoist politics in Far West. He was elected from Doti (B) electoral constituency in the provincial assembly election.
